Whoo-Hoo headed to the Codepink House in June
Yay! I have been accepted for a week of activist training at the Codepink house in June. I can't wait to get there!
Mother's Day D.C.
Codepink's mother's day festival outside the White House was a spectacularly moving event. It was a painful, yet poignant moment to see all of the names of Iraq War dead and Julia Ward Howe's words tied to the White House fence. The sights and sounds of the day will stay with me for a long time.

JOIN A PEACE RALLY - PRESIDENT BUSH IN VIRGINIA, FEB. 3
President Bush will be speaking at the annual retreat of House Democrats at Kingsmill (near Williamsburg). The event has already been noticed by the national media, as it is unprecedented that Bush would speak to a meeting of House Democrats.

This is the location of the rally.PARKING: There is plenty of public parking around this area. there are side streets off Kingsmill Road that have office buildings with parking lots that should be empty on Saturday. Parking is permitted along many of the side streets. It is CRITICAL that we have a huge attendance at this Peace Rally. We expect lots of people will be coming from Richmond and Hampton Roads, and all points in between and nearby. Our demonstration is directed not only at George Bush, because he is not listening anyway. We will also be strongly directing our messages to the House Democrats, because they need to listen NOW. They need to take a stand NOW. Enough is enough! Our Peace Rally is be endorsed by national and local peaceorganizations: The Virginia Anti-War Network and otherendorsing organizations: TrueMajority, PeaceSurge, Hampton Roads Peace and Justice Coalition. CCPJ also endorses this event. Please plan to attend, and help to demonstrate to Congress and theentire country that eastern Virginia wants a quick end to Bush's War in Iraq. Invite as many family and friends as you can, especially young people. Tomorrow's world belongs to them. Please forward this message to as many people as possible right now. Some suggested items you might bring Saturday:* Signs & Banners (of course)* Drums, Bells and other noise/music makers* U.S.Flags & Red,White,Blue BalloonsPeace is patriotic, and the conservatives have tried to co-opt the concept of patriotism for the past 40 years. When they try to misuse our language, and co-opt symbols, we need to respond. This is why we also need to respond right now to Bush's so-called 'troop surge' with a PeaceSurge. We can take it back.If you have any ideas or questions, please e-mail me. Let's think big. We will succeed.Clayton Lory norfolkpeacesurge@yahoo.com

Is There Anybody Out There?
Welcome to the very first posting from Codepink RVA participant Warprotester! Yes, there are war protesters in the South. Hard to believe, but true. I am pleased to announce that over 250 anti-war protesters braved the cold night air to protest the Wednesday after the President's State of the Union Address. We stood in front of city hall with a multitude of signs, noisemakers, candles, flashlights, and a few aging hippies to encourage our fellow Richmonders to honk for peace. We garnered a lot of support, attention from the local news media, and a few expletives shouted our way.
Yesterday, I traveled with an assortment of groups to Washington, D.C. for the January 27th Ant-War Protest. Codepink was out in force and very visible. I had a blast meeting women from all over the United States who are devoted to the same mission of ending this heinous war in Iraq.
I look forward to hearing from my readers about their experiences and any plans for local Virginia events.
Peace Out,
Warprotester
